Geometric thickness in a grid

چکیده

The geometric thickness of a graph is the minimum number of layers such that the graph can be drawn in the plane with edges as straight-line segments, and with each edge assigned to a layer so that no two edges in the same layer cross. We consider a variation on this theme in which each edge is allowed one bend. We prove that the vertices of an n-vertex m-edge graph can be positioned in a √n × √n grid and the edges assigned to O(√m) layers, so that each edge is drawn with at most one bend and no two edges on the same layer cross. The proof is a 2-dimensional generalisation of a theorem of Malitz (J. Algorithms 17(1) (1994) 71–84) on book embeddings. We obtain a Las Vegas algorithm to compute the drawing in O(m log n log log n) time (with high probability). c © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

تأثیر خط کوفی بر خط کوفی بنایی و تحول آن تا آرم‌نویسی‌های امروز

Square or geometric Kufic (also known as banna’i) developed from the Kufic script and consists of repeating vertical, horizontal, and parallel geometric units on a geometric network called a grid. Due to its unique visual characteristics and its close association with architecture, it is very promising for use in contemporary arts. This paper presents a research on contributing factors to...

Helicopter Rotor Airloads Prediction Using CFD and Flight Test Measurement in Hover Flight

An implicit unsteady upwind solver including a mesh motion approach was applied to simulate a helicopter including body, main rotor and tail rotor in hover flight. The discretization was based on a second order finite volume approach with fluxes given by the Roeand#39;s scheme. Discretization of Geometric Conservation Laws (GCL) was devised in such a way that the three-dimensional flows on arbi...

Graph Theoretical Problems in Next-Generation Chip Design

A major component of computer chip design is creating an optimal physical layout of a netlist, i.e., determining where to place the functional elements and how to route the wires connecting them when manufacturing a chip. Because of its basic structure, the overall problem of netlist layout contains many questions that lend themselves to graph theoretical modeling and analysis. We will describe...

Studying the influence of Geometric Characteristics and Arrangement of FRP Layers on Rehabilitation of Concrete Shear Walls

During recent years, the use of fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) as a desirable alternative for improving the behavior of lateral resisting system are known. There are various factors influencing the quality of such kind of rehabilitation. This study aims to investigate the influence of geometric characteristics and arrangement of FRP layers on rehabilitating of concrete shear walls.  A few rein...

A Power Series Solution for Free Vibration of Variable Thickness Mindlin Circular Plates with Two-Directional Material Heterogeneity and Elastic Foundations

In the present paper, a semi-analytical solution is presented for free vibration analysis of circular plates with complex combinations of the geometric parameters, edge-conditions, material heterogeneity, and elastic foundation coefficients. The presented solution covers many engineering applications. The plate is assumed to have a variable thickness and made of a heterogeneous material whose p...
